Ex Machina Narrative Factory is an independent creative laboratory and publishing imprint devoted to original worlds.

We develop concepts, games, books, tabletop role-playing experiences and essays that explore the relationship between creation, meaning and play.

Rather than focusing on a single medium, we focus on building worlds that can find their most meaningful expression through different forms. We build through partnerships or publish ourselves.

How We Work

Every world asks for something different.

We don't believe in a fixed formula or a permanent structure. Instead, each project gathers the people, disciplines and perspectives it needs to become what it wants to be.

Writers, artists, designers, musicians, developers, editors, actors and researchers may all become part of the process.

The lineup evolves with every project but the creative direction remains constant.

Creative Direction

Ex Machina Narrative Factory has been founded and creatively led by Emmanuel Obert.

After two decades spanning community building, publishing, creative direction and original IP development, he created Ex Machina as a place where ideas could evolve beyond a single game or company.

His role is not to create everything, but to provide the creative direction that allows each project and each collaboration to find its own coherence.
