Fading Echo is an original action-adventure built around a simple creative idea: Become Water.

Set within the Echoverse, players explore a world shaped by transformation, where movement, combat, traversal and exploration all emerge from the same systemic foundation. Water is not simply a mechanic, it is the language through which the world is experienced.

Developed by Emeteria and published by New Tales, Fading Echo is the first major work through which many of the ideas explored by Ex Machina found their initial expression.

Rather than beginning with gameplay or narrative in isolation, the project sought to build a coherent world where mechanics, story, visual identity and player experience all expressed the same central philosophy. For Ex Machina, it became the first exploration of how a creative vision can shape every layer of an original IP.

Beyond the game itself, Fading Echo involved the creation of an entirely original universe designed to support long-term storytelling.

The world of the Echoverse, its history, mythology, cultures, characters and underlying creative principles, was developed as a coherent foundation documented through an extensive IP bible. The ambition was never to create a single game, but to establish a world capable of growing across future stories and media.

Emmanuel Obert co-led the project's creative direction in his role as Chief Content Officer at New Tales, helping define the world's creative vision from its earliest foundations.

His work included the conception of the original universe, the adaptation of its narrative framework and creative pillars for the media, and the establishment of the IP bible that continues to guide the evolution of the world.

Fading Echo is the result of a collective effort.

Developed by the talented team at Emeteria and brought to players by New Tales, the project connected designers, artists, programmers, writers, producers, composers, actors and many other contributors around a shared creative direction.

Fading Echo reflects the belief that meaningful creations emerge through the relationships between people, disciplines and ideas, not through the work of a single individual.

Questions Explored

  • Can a single core idea shape every aspect of a game?

  • What happens when movement, combat and exploration emerge from the same systemic language?

  • How can an original world be designed to grow beyond a single medium?
